Poetry on Life and Love

All is Love

A red-faced cliff

It's profile casting shadows on the desert flow.

That is love.

A fertilized egg

Whose cells split; one to flesh and one to bone.

That is love.

A forgotten seedling

Struggles through the topsoil, reaching for the sun.

That is love.

Two caressing arms

Support your soul, accepting your struggles as theirs.

That is love.

Rocks or cells, seeds or flesh.

All share Life's water; all share Life's dust.

All is love.

The Master’s Word

People come from near and far

To hear the Master’s word

They sit in awe as he shares his thoughts

But for me it is absurd

While I hear the Master speak

Understanding is not clear

Though his words can shrink the strongest man

I am not cajoled by fear

For if one’s goal is the truth

Mere words get in the way

To truly learn one must listen to

What the Master doesn’t say

The Face of the Divine

We are born naked

With a face resembling the Divine

Whomever looks at us

Sees the face of God.

Our pure Divine face

Is seen by the world.

Endless joy and happiness

Is our response to its gaze.

We are full of love

Until the Profane seeps in.

And begins to whisper

Its doubts and concerns.

We are no longer Divine

The Profane strongly assures.

But a mask will protect us

From the thieves of sacredness.

The mask proves successful

In protecting each self

But damages are many

From the falsehoods built.

How sad for the fallen

To live with these lies.

When the smallest of gestures

Could cleanse the world.

By removing our masks

Our light bursts forth

Revealing the Truth by

Showing our divinity.

Humility Ignites Humanity’s Light

Born of light, and born to be light,

A light began shining on a cold winter’s eve.

Through initial cycles of vibrancy

His light illuminated those around him.

Introduced to himself early on in his life,

His light gently began to dim.

As cravings grew and yearnings took hold,

The light slowly became muted and diffused.

By the beginning of the spring of his life

No light was present at all.

Darkness reigned in his reality;

He wandered, blissfully adrift in the carnal.

Every desire fulfilled, every craving quenched,

The shadows offered many pleasures.

And though nearly every desire was assuaged,

One deep within his being was not.

One glorious dawn found him writhing in pain,

His pleasures no longer caressed, but cut.

The agony so overwhelming that he found himself

Crying deeply from the inside out.

Not knowing why, not knowing how

Through clenched jaws his lips began to move.

And he found himself whispering to the sky,

“Though I am not worthy, please someone rescue me.”

With that humble request, the searing pain withdrew.

The cloak of darkness no longer enveloped him.

And the brightness of his soul that once lit his way

Once again illuminated the world.

Overcome with joy he began to laugh;

His light shining brighter with each hearty breath.

And a voice said to him as he was raised to his feet,

“Humility ignites humanity’s light.”
